The Bred and the Bald: Captain Carrot and Alley-Kat Abra
Under the Mistletoe
by Comickook
Captain Carrot and Alley-Kat-Abra have been dating for a few months, but Felina Furr is unsure how serious Rodney Rabbit is about her, given his earlier crush on Wonder Wabbit. Will Christmas Eve be the right time for them to express their love?
***
It was Christmas Eve in the Z-Building, and, except for Captain Carrot and Alley-Kat-Abra, the building was deserted. The others were either on solo cases or spending time with their friends and relatives. While the good Captain was finishing putting the Christmas presents he intended for his teammates under the tree, Felina Furr stepped into the room wearing a green sweater and sweat pants.
As she realized she was underneath a couple of sprigs of mistletoe, Felina thought to herself, For once, I actually don’t mind the fact that Rubberduck insists on covering the ceilings of all the Z-Building levels with mistletoe every Christmas, even if this is the first time in my memory that Rodney and I have had the entire building to ourselves. Of course, this is only the first Christmas where Rodney and I have been an official couple.
But Alley-Kat-Abra was still feeling a bit awkward about their relationship. They’d been on many romantic dates since the Nasty Menagerie case wrapped up in October, but although he’d shown his affection in many ways over that time, he’d never told her he loved her. (*) She already knew how she felt about him, but she needed to hear it from him first. After all, she needed to know for sure that he was truly over that Wonder Wabbit. Still, if he didn’t tell her exactly how he felt, she might have to confront him about it. As Captain Carrot, Rodney was a brave rabbit, but he also had his timid side when it came to love. Could he be brave enough to say the words she wanted to hear?

Captain Carrot let his super-sharp eyesight take in his feline companion’s form. That green sweater and sweat pants were modest, but went well with the sparkle of her green eyes. Nervously, the super-lepus stepped up and said, “Felina, just so you know, you are under a couple of sprigs of mistletoe, so I hope you don’t take any offense toward this.” And he carefully leaned forward and gently kissed the black-furred sorceress, both parties enjoying the kiss thoroughly.
“No offense taken, Captain,” Felina said with a sweet smile. “You can kiss me any time, if you want to, just as I can kiss you.” She pointed to the ceiling above the Captain, which showed that he was also standing under said mistletoe, and kissed him back passionately, levitating both of them one foot off the ground with some help from Magic Wanda.
I can’t believe I spent so long mooning over Wonder Wabbit when I had somebody even more wonderful right beneath my very whiskers, Captain Carrot silently thought to himself, still grateful that he was finally able to find the willpower to overcome his crush on the aforementioned Wonder Wabbit of Earth-C-Minus and take a chance on asking out Alley-Kat-Abra.
When Felina finally broke off her kiss and gently lowered herself and the Captain back to the ground, the super-lepus replied, “Well, Felina, we’ve been dating steadily for a couple of months now and have known each other for a long time before that. What I’m trying to get at is, I have one special Christmas present under the tree that I’d like to give it to you now, if you’d like.”
After she nodded excitedly, Captain Carrot quickly grabbed a small gift-wrapped box and presented it to her. Looking as curious as a cat, Alley-Kat-Abra quickly unwrapped the box and opened it. Inside the box was a gorgeous silver necklace adorned with diamonds, something he had spent the last few months saving up enough money for with his comic-book artist’s salary. “It’s absolutely gorgeous, Rodney!” said Felina Furr, smiling happily as she placed the necklace around her neck. “Thank you so much!”
The Captain pulled back the red cowl he wore to reveal the face of Rodney Rabbit, then gently grasped Felina’s hands, looked her lovingly in the eyes, and said for the first time, “Felina Furr, I love you.”
With an even wider smile on her face and tears of joy in her eyes, Felina — so choked up that she could barely get the words out — said, “I love you, Rodney! I love you, too.”
Then Felina took Rodney in her arms and kissed him once more. Now that’s the hero I fell in love with, she thought to herself.
